SRT Streaming That Survives Shaky Internet

Venue Wi-Fi, phone hotspots, crowded networks — the places you actually stream from are rarely perfect. SRT streaming notices when pieces of your video go missing and re-sends them instantly, so your viewers see a smooth broadcast while your connection has a bad day. Encrypted on the way, and included free on every Livepush plan.

What is SRT streaming?

When you stream live, your video travels to Livepush in thousands of little pieces. On a perfect connection they all arrive. On real-world Wi-Fi, some go missing — and with ordinary streaming, missing pieces mean freezes, stutters, or a dropped stream.

SRT (short for Secure Reliable Transport) works like a courier with a checklist. It notices the instant a piece goes missing and re-sends it before your viewers ever see a gap. It also locks every piece with encryption on the way. You don't configure any of this — you just paste an SRT address into your app instead of an RTMP one, and your stream gets tougher.

Imperfect network
Lost pieces re-sent Encrypted Smooth for viewers
Built for real-world internet
Venue Wi-Fi, hotspots, and shared networks drop pieces of video all the time. SRT recovers them before anyone notices.
Private by default
Your video is encrypted from your camera to Livepush, so nobody on the network in between can watch or interfere.
Nothing else changes
Multistreaming, website playback, recordings, and monitoring all work exactly as they do with RTMP. Only the journey gets safer.

Made for the places you actually stream from

Weddings on venue Wi-Fi. Sports from a field on a phone hotspot. Conferences where 500 phones share one router. These are exactly the networks SRT was designed for — it expects trouble and quietly fixes it, second by second, for your entire broadcast.

  • Keeps streams smooth on venue Wi-Fi, hotspots, and 4G/5G
  • Recovers from brief drops without ending your broadcast
  • Pair with real-time monitoring to watch stream health live

Locked from your camera to our servers

The "S" in SRT stands for Secure. Your stream is scrambled with AES encryption — the same family of protection used in online banking — for its whole journey to Livepush. On hotel Wi-Fi, shared venue networks, or anywhere you don't control the connection, nobody in between can watch or tamper with your video.

  • AES encryption in transit, on by default — nothing to configure
  • Ideal for private events, paid content, and company broadcasts
  • Only Livepush can unlock the stream and pass it to your destinations

A tiny safety buffer, not a long delay

SRT's trick is a small buffer — usually a second or two — that gives it time to re-send anything the network dropped. That is all it needs. Your stream stays close to real time, your viewers stay in sync, and Q&As and live reactions still feel live.

  • Typically adds only 1–2 seconds of safety buffer
  • Often as fast as or faster than RTMP on the same network
  • Adjustable in your app if you want extra protection on rough links

SRT or RTMP? Pick per stream, switch anytime

There is no wrong answer — every Livepush stream comes with both addresses. Solid studio internet? RTMP is simple and universal. Streaming from a venue, a field, or anywhere the connection is out of your hands? Paste the SRT address instead. Your destinations, recordings, and dashboard stay exactly the same.

  • Stable wired internet → RTMP is all you need
  • Wi-Fi, hotspot, or on the move → SRT keeps it smooth
  • Both included on every plan, no extra setup

SRT Streaming:
Common Questions

Plain-language answers about SRT, shaky connections, and how it compares to RTMP.

What is SRT streaming, in simple terms?
SRT is a way for your streaming app to deliver video to Livepush that is built for imperfect internet. Think of it as a courier that notices when a package goes missing and instantly re-sends it, so your viewers see a smooth stream even when your connection stumbles. It also locks the package — your video is encrypted on the way.
SRT vs RTMP: which one should I use?
If you stream from home or a studio with solid internet, RTMP is fine and every app supports it. If you stream over venue Wi-Fi, a phone hotspot, or from remote locations — weddings, sports fields, conferences — use SRT. It keeps the stream smooth where RTMP would stutter or drop. On Livepush you get both and can switch anytime.
Do I need special software for SRT?
Probably not — you may already have it. OBS Studio (version 25 and newer), vMix, Wirecast, Larix Broadcaster on phones, and most modern hardware encoders support SRT out of the box. You paste your Livepush SRT address the same way you would paste an RTMP URL.
Will SRT fix my bad internet?
SRT can't create bandwidth you don't have, but it makes the most of what you do have. On connections that occasionally drop or delay pieces of video — the most common kind of "bad internet" — SRT recovers those pieces before viewers notice. If your connection is far too slow overall, lowering your stream quality is still the fix.
Is SRT streaming encrypted?
Yes. SRT encrypts your video in transit using AES, the same family of encryption used in online banking. Nobody between your camera and Livepush can watch or tamper with the stream, which matters on shared or public networks.
Does SRT cost extra on Livepush?
No. SRT is included on every plan, including the free plan. Every stream you create comes with both an RTMP and an SRT address — use whichever suits your connection that day.
Can I still multistream to YouTube and Facebook with SRT?
Yes. SRT only changes how your video travels from your app to Livepush. Once it arrives, everything works the same: multistream to 40+ platforms, play it on your website, record it, and monitor it — identical to an RTMP stream.
Does SRT add delay to my stream?
SRT adds a small, configurable safety buffer — often around one to two seconds — which it uses to recover lost video. That tiny buffer is what keeps the stream smooth, and overall delay typically stays as low as or lower than RTMP on the same connection.
