Multistreaming YouTube Facebook OBS

Stream to YouTube and Facebook at the Same Time

Step-by-step guide to multistreaming to YouTube Live and Facebook Live simultaneously using OBS and Livepush, without extra upload bandwidth.

Stream to YouTube and Facebook at the Same Time

Streaming to two platforms at once sounds complicated, but with the right setup it takes about 5 minutes. You still use OBS. You just change where OBS sends the stream.

How Multistreaming Works

OBS sends your video to one RTMP address. To reach YouTube and Facebook (and more) at the same time, you point OBS at a multistreaming service. The service receives your single stream and simultaneously re-sends it to all your connected destinations.

OBS → RTMP to Livepush → YouTube Live
                       → Facebook Live
                       → Twitch
                       → [any other platform]

Your upload usage: exactly one stream's worth of bandwidth.

What You Need

  • OBS Studio (free, download from obsproject.com)
  • A Livepush account (Facebook streaming requires a paid plan, starting with Pro at $15/month)
  • YouTube channel with Live enabled
  • Facebook Page or Profile with Live enabled

Step 1: Create a Stream on Livepush

  1. Log in to app.livepush.io
  2. Click New Stream
  3. Name your stream (e.g. "My Weekly Show")
  4. You'll get a Livepush RTMP URL and Stream Key. Keep this tab open

Step 2: Connect YouTube as a Destination

  1. In Livepush, click Add Destination → YouTube
  2. Click Connect YouTube and authorize with your Google account
  3. Select your channel
  4. Livepush will now push your stream to YouTube when you go live

Step 3: Connect Facebook as a Destination

  1. Click Add Destination → Facebook
  2. Click Connect Facebook and authorize
  3. Select your Facebook Page (not a personal profile; Pages support better streaming features)
  4. Done

Step 4: Configure OBS

  1. Open OBS → Settings → Stream
  2. Service: Custom
  3. Server: paste the Livepush RTMP URL (e.g. rtmp://ingest.livepush.io/live)
  4. Stream Key: paste your Livepush stream key
  5. Click OK

Facebook's cap is 4,000 Kbps. Set OBS to respect this:

  • Settings → Output → Bitrate: 4,000 Kbps
  • Settings → Video → Output Resolution: 1920×1080
  • Settings → Video → FPS: 30
  • Keyframe Interval: 2 seconds

These settings produce a clean 1080p stream that both YouTube and Facebook can handle.

Step 5: Go Live

  1. In OBS, click Start Streaming
  2. Open the Livepush dashboard. Your stream should show as active
  3. Check that YouTube Studio and Facebook Creator Studio both show an incoming stream
  4. Click Go Live in the Livepush dashboard (or set it to auto-start)

Your stream is now live on both platforms simultaneously from a single OBS session.

Monitoring Your Multistream

The Livepush dashboard shows the health of each destination in real time. If one platform has an issue (e.g. Facebook authentication expired), you'll see it flagged without affecting the other destinations.

ℹ️
Tip: YouTube needs a 24-hour head start for scheduled streams
If this is your first time streaming to YouTube, YouTube requires you to enable Live 24 hours before your first stream. Do this in YouTube Studio → Go Live.

Adding More Platforms

Livepush supports 40+ destinations including Twitch, LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Kick, and custom RTMP servers. Add more destinations in the Livepush dashboard under Destinations. Each connection takes under a minute.

Multistreaming Without OBS

If you don't use OBS, you can also multistream from:

  • Hardware encoders (Teradek, ATEM Mini Pro) via RTMP
  • Zoom: use Livepush as a custom RTMP destination in Zoom's live streaming settings
  • StreamYard: connect Livepush as a custom RTMP output

Any encoder that supports custom RTMP works with Livepush.

Common Issues

Facebook isn't showing my stream as live: Check that your Facebook destination is connected to a Page, not a personal profile. Facebook restricted live from personal profiles.

Stream looks good on Livepush but poor on YouTube: OBS bitrate might be too low after Facebook's 4,000 Kbps cap affected your output. Consider using Livepush's transcoding feature to send different quality levels to different platforms.

Dropped frames in OBS: Lower your OBS bitrate, or switch from RTMP to SRT ingest if you're on an unstable connection. See our OBS dropped frames guide for full diagnosis steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can OBS stream to multiple platforms at once natively?
Not directly. OBS supports one RTMP output. To stream to multiple platforms simultaneously, you need a multistreaming service like Livepush that accepts your single OBS stream and fans it out to all destinations.
Does multistreaming require more upload bandwidth?
Not when using a cloud multistreaming service like Livepush. You send one stream to Livepush, and Livepush handles the connections to YouTube, Facebook, and other platforms. Your upload usage is the same as streaming to a single platform.
Can I multistream to Facebook for free?
No. Facebook streaming is not included in Livepush's free plan; it requires a paid plan, starting with Pro at $15/month. The free plan still lets you stream to 3 destinations simultaneously (such as YouTube and Twitch) for up to 20 hours per month.
What bitrate should I use when multistreaming to YouTube and Facebook?
Facebook's maximum ingest bitrate is 4,000 Kbps. Set your OBS bitrate to 4,000 Kbps when Livepush forwards to Facebook to ensure compatibility. For YouTube-only destinations, Livepush can transcode to allow a higher source bitrate.
