Getting started

What is live event hosting?
Live event hosting is broadcasting a live video stream to an online audience through a platform that handles delivery, player hosting, and distribution. With Livepush, you connect your encoder or camera, and Livepush delivers the stream through Akamai's global CDN to your own branded web player, YouTube, Facebook, and other platforms simultaneously. Everything runs from the cloud — no specialist infrastructure required.
How quickly can I host my first live event?
Most users are streaming within 15 minutes of signing up. Create a free account, get your RTMP or SRT stream key, plug it into OBS, vMix, or any standard encoder, and go live. No hardware to configure, no server to set up, no waiting for approval.
Do I need previous experience to host a live event?
No. Livepush works with any standard encoder including OBS (free), vMix, Zoom, and hardware encoders you already own. If you know how to go live on YouTube, you can use Livepush. The dashboard handles CDN routing, multistreaming, and player hosting automatically.
Is there a free plan to try live event hosting?
Yes. The free plan includes 20 streaming hours per month with access to core live event features including the web player and streaming to up to 10 platforms at once. No credit card required. Paid event hosting plans unlock higher bandwidth, viewer capacity, DVR, and additional destinations.
How is Livepush different from YouTube Live or Facebook Live?
YouTube Live and Facebook Live each host your stream on their own platform only. Livepush lets you stream to both simultaneously, plus host the event on your own branded website player with DVR and analytics. You own the audience, the data, and the experience — not the platform.
How is Livepush different from Dacast or Vimeo Events?
Livepush combines live event hosting (branded player, CDN delivery) with multistreaming to social platforms and pre-recorded live automation — all in one dashboard. Most competitors offer one or two of these. Livepush plans also start significantly lower, with a free tier available.

Reliability and scale

How many concurrent viewers can Livepush handle?
Livepush delivers streams through Akamai's global CDN, which is built to scale to millions of concurrent viewers. There is no artificial viewer cap at the platform level — your event scales as your audience grows. Bandwidth limits depend on your plan. Livepush has successfully hosted events with over 1,000 concurrent viewers, including the Bolt live event.
What happens if my stream drops during a live event?
Livepush supports SRT ingest, which is designed to recover from packet loss and network instability without interrupting the broadcast. If the encoder connection drops entirely, it can be re-established within seconds. For high-stakes events, SRT ingest is strongly recommended over RTMP for this reason.
What is the latency for live event streaming?
For standard HLS delivery to the web player and most social platforms, latency is typically 10–30 seconds. For Low-Latency HLS, latency can be reduced to 3–8 seconds. The right choice depends on your event type — lower latency matters more for interactive Q&A than for concerts or keynotes.
Does Livepush use a CDN for live event delivery?
Yes. Livepush uses Akamai's global CDN for live event delivery. Akamai is the CDN trusted by major broadcasters and enterprise customers for low-latency, high-availability streaming. This means your event is delivered from edge servers close to each viewer rather than a single origin, reducing buffering regardless of where your audience is located.
Is Livepush suitable for high-profile or large-scale events?
Yes. Livepush has powered large-scale events including the Bolt live event, which reached over 1,000 concurrent viewers worldwide with no interruptions. The Akamai CDN integration ensures your stream can scale from a 50-person internal meeting to a 50,000-person global broadcast on the same platform.

Platforms and reach

Which platforms can I stream my live event to?
Livepush supports 30+ destinations including YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitch, X (Twitter), Instagram, TikTok, Kick, and Rumble. Any RTMP-compatible destination can be added via custom RTMP — including private streaming servers and enterprise video platforms like Kaltura or Brightcove.
Can I stream to YouTube and Facebook at the same time?
Yes. With multistreaming, your event goes live on YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitch, and other platforms simultaneously from a single Livepush source. The number of concurrent destinations available depends on your plan.
Can I host my event exclusively on my own website without social platforms?
Yes. You can use just the Livepush web player to host your event on your own website without distributing to any social platform. This is common for corporate events, conferences, and gated or paid content where you want to control the viewing experience entirely.
Can I embed the live player on any website?
Yes. Every Livepush plan includes an embeddable HTML5 live player. Copy the iframe snippet from your dashboard and add it to any webpage — WordPress, Webflow, Squarespace, or custom-built sites. The player is responsive, works on all devices, and requires no plugins or additional software.
Can I stream to multiple YouTube channels or Facebook pages?
Yes. You can connect multiple YouTube channels or Facebook pages to your Livepush account and stream to them simultaneously. Each connected account counts as one destination toward your plan's destination limit.

Player and monetization

Can I record my live event automatically?
Yes. Livepush can automatically record your live stream as an MP4 file while the event is running. Recordings are stored in the cloud and available for download or replay after the event ends. This is included on applicable paid plans.
Can viewers rewind or pause a live event while it is still streaming?
Yes. DVR functionality lets viewers pause and rewind the live stream without affecting playback for other viewers. A viewer who joins late can rewind to the beginning of the event. DVR is available on applicable event hosting plans.
Does the web player support real-time analytics?
Yes. The Livepush dashboard shows live viewer counts, bitrate, stream health, and geographic data during your event. Post-event analytics are also available showing peak concurrent viewers, total watch time, and playback quality metrics.
Can I restrict who can watch my live event?
Yes. The Livepush player supports domain restrictions so only viewers on your website can watch the embedded stream. Combined with password protection, you can run fully gated events where only invited attendees can view the stream.

Technical setup

What encoder should I use for live event hosting?
Livepush works with any encoder that supports RTMP or SRT output. OBS Studio (free), vMix, Wirecast, XSplit, Zoom, FFMPEG, and hardware encoders from Magewell, Teradek, and similar brands all work natively. If you have an existing encoding workflow, you most likely do not need to change it.
What ingest protocols does Livepush support?
Livepush supports RTMP and SRT ingest. SRT is recommended for high-reliability events as it handles packet loss and network jitter better than RTMP. Pull URL ingest is also supported for IP cameras and compatible sources.
What bitrate and resolution should I stream at for a live event?
For a 1080p event, a source bitrate of 4,000–8,000 kbps is recommended. For 720p, 2,500–5,000 kbps works well. The Livepush transcoder generates multiple quality tiers automatically for adaptive bitrate delivery, so viewers on slower connections still get a smooth stream.
Does Livepush support adaptive bitrate streaming?
Yes. Livepush delivers streams via HLS with adaptive bitrate (ABR), automatically adjusting quality based on each viewer's connection. Viewers on fast connections get the highest quality; viewers on slower connections get a lower-quality rendition with no buffering. This happens automatically with no configuration required.
Can I get a direct HLS link to use in my own player?
Yes. Livepush provides direct HLS (.m3u8) links for every stream. You can use these links in any HLS-compatible player including Video.js, HLS.js, JW Player, and Bitmovin, or hand them off to downstream delivery systems and CDNs.

Plans and pricing

How is live event hosting priced?
Live event hosting plans are priced by bandwidth and streaming hours. Plans start at $59/month (or $49/mo billed annually) for Events, with higher tiers for more bandwidth, viewer capacity, and features like DVR. See the pricing page for a full breakdown of what each plan includes.
Can I use Livepush for a one-off event without a long-term commitment?
Yes. Livepush plans are monthly with no long-term contract. Sign up for a plan for the month of your event and cancel before the next billing cycle. There is no per-event surcharge and no minimum commitment period.
Can I upgrade my plan mid-event if I need more capacity?
Yes. Plan upgrades take effect immediately. If your event is live and you need to increase bandwidth or unlock additional destinations, you can upgrade from the dashboard without interrupting the stream.
Is the free plan suitable for real live events?
The free plan includes 20 hours per month and is suitable for small-scale or test events with a limited audience. For events requiring reliable CDN delivery, DVR, or higher concurrent viewers, a paid event hosting plan is recommended.
Is there a bandwidth limit on live event plans?
Yes. Each plan includes a monthly bandwidth allocation for CDN delivery through the web player. Streaming hours to social platforms like YouTube and Facebook do not consume your Livepush bandwidth — only player-hosted streams do. See the pricing page for bandwidth limits per plan.
